My gg grandmother was Agnes HALLIDAY born around 1842.
I believe her parents may have been John HALLIDAY and Elizabeth DICK (Elizabeth Dick were first&middle names of my gg grandmother's 1st born daughter (who was my g grandmother) and then of that daughter's 2nd born daughter)
All I have from IGI data is that there was in fact a John Halliday married to Elizabeth Dick who had a son Robert born 8 Dec 1844 in Cambusnethan parish
(IGI The source number is c116284)
Family information has Agnes' siblings down as: Robert, John, David and Margaret. Some of these or their children immigrated to Canada (Quebec ...) and the US.
Agnes HALLIDAY married James LEGGAT 2-Nov-1860 Parish Cambusnethan, county of Lanark, District 628 Lanarkshire Scotland.
James and Agnes had 5 children in the Monklands before moving to (Harrington)Cumberland, Eng., where they had 3 more:
Elizabeth Dick (my g grandmother) b. 1-Dec-1861 Old Monkland
Jane Frew b. 10-Apr-1864 New Monkland
John b. 16-Nov-1866 New Monkland
James b 27-Aug-1869 New Monkland
David Halliday b 30-Oct-1871 New Monkland
Robert b. 1874 Harrington, Cumb. Eng
William b. 1876 Harrington, Cumb. Eng
Thomas b. 1878 Harrington, Cumb. Eng
At least a couple of the LEGGAT children went to Canada, including my g grandmother, after she married James FERGUSON.
A great aunt told me that the HALLIDAY family were connected Wishaw (whether originally from there or whether my g aunt knew of relatives there in the 20th c, I don't know.)
Would love to hear from anyone connected to this HALLIDAY family to share info.
A.

Additional HALLIDAY
I may have a little more on the HALLIDAY family, thanks to somone who looked at the 1851 census for me.
At that time. 1851, Agnes was 8 (born around 1843 in Cambusnethan) and she was with a Margaret HALLIDAY (born around 1783 in Crawford) -my guess is that was her paternal grandmother.
Other siblings of Agnes were with John (born around 1806 Crawford) and Elizabeth HALLIDAY: David (born around 1830 in Carluke); Robert (b around 1845 in Cambusnethan) and John (b around 1848 also Cambusnethan). I don't know about the daughter Margaret at this point.
It appears that the HALLIDAY family may have been of Crawford. However it is possible, if Margeret is John's mother, that her family (I don't know her maiden name) was from Crawford and not that of his father???
Alas, one speculation at a time!
