    Default Cant Find GRO Index Ref

    Still hunting for info on G.Grandfather John Green and his Wife Jane Woodruff Brooksby. I found reference on a search site to them being married at St. Leonard's Church in Deal on 29 May 1864. Tried to order a copy of marriage cert to get info on his father but can't because I don't have the GRO Index Ref. have done searches on FMP but can't find any reference to them. Any ideas on how to find out?

    Actually I have just looked at the orginal (handwritten) image and I think the page number might be 113 plus a smudge! What do others think?

    Default Marriage Ref

    Hi _ i've had a look at the original scans used by Free BMD and whilst the page with the bride shown is not very good, the one for John Green is better and I'm sure the last digit is 7 (as does the transcriber of Free BMD). Degan

    Plus the page range for that quarter, Eastry marriage is 1133-1173. So should be four digits.

    Thanks Degan, I didn't think it did, but went back and had a look at Jane's entry and you can see the bottom of the seven going down and touching the entry below, so think it is 1137, thanks both of you!

    Jolly good. I should have thought to look at the groom's page as well but I was rushing off to watch 'Empire of the Seas'

    OR - to quote a thread reply from Peter Goodey to me in December:
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    "Please stop peering at bad scans and microfiche. If you must have the page number, ask GRO what it is!
    See http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Governme...arch/DG_175464
    Scroll down to "Need help deciphering your index reference?".
    You can write, phone or email and they will reply within one working day. "
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    And it worked !

    Default Unreadable entries

    ET - thank you so much for that link. I've made a note of the number for future reference. I normally order my certs on line but couldn't read an entry. I was going to post a copy of the page only to discover that you can only order on official order forms via the mail. However I wrote anyway and they sent me a load of forms for future use. I ordered the cert in question via the Local BMD site as I didn't need the ref anyway. And the lady at Preston was really helpful, as she rang to query something. Degan
