Any Census - Isaac Goucher

Hi all,

I would be grateful for any information on Isaac Goucher (allegedy born in Balcome, Sussex about 1805) and his wife Lucy who was born in 1807 in worth,Sussex.

I apologise for the lack of detail, but it is all I have so far.

A* has them as Goacher on the 1841 - Isaac age 35, labourer, Lucy 34, Daniel 10, Joseph 8, all born in county, living Buttinghill, Cuckfield, Sussex - H0107, pice1111, Book 6, folio 24, page 5.

In 1851 he is a lodger at the home of William Haselgrove and his wife Rachel and grandson Alfred age 13. William is a an Ag Lab. Isaac is a widower and he has Daniel and a George Goucher (son) with him (Daniel is 20 and an app. shoemaker) George is age 8. Isaac is an Ag Lab - he lives "near the Town" - Linfield Cuckfield Sussex, born Cuckfield. ref H0101, piece 1642, folio (A* just has a ; ) page1

On to 1861 Isaac age 56 is now lodging with the Saunders family, Samuel and Louisa and their 4 children. He is still an ag lab, but lists himself as unmarried. Living Whilemans Green, Cuckfield, Sussex Ref RG9, piece 582, Folio 33, page 2. Would you like me to look for Daniel and George in 1861?

Hi Pennydog,

Gosh you are quick.....I had a quick look at bmd and Found two Lucy Goacher deaths in Cuckfield in 1846....the first in the March quarter which was probably her daughter and the second in the December quarter which was probably Lucy herself.

Freebdm has a birth of a George Goacher June 1842 Cuckfield 7 -305 and a death of a Lucy Goacher, Dec 1846 Cuckfield 7 - 263.

We cross posted - it would seem that the 1846 death would suit as George was born 1842.

Just found Lucy birth in 1840 Cuckfield.
