Details on C.C of an Entry of Death

Endeavouring to find a living relative of a deceased person (2003) , aged 94, I sent for her d/c. Although registered in Derby and place of death Derby, the informant lived in Uttoxeter Staffordshire. This name is not the deceased persons surname and I don't think the deceased had children. Maybe he was the manager of an aged care facility, a solicitor /and or Executor. Her usual address was 55 Courtland Drive, Alvaston, Derby. The death was certified by J.Sanfey MB. I'm presuming there's some sort of etiquette to be observed here? Please, where should my 1st port of call be? Thank you. Lizzie B

In a similar situation, I took the view that if I didn't ask I'd never find out. So I wrote a tactful letter to the informant on the DC, explained fully who I was, and asked him what his connection was with the deceased. I was surprised, and lucky. He turned out to be an adopted son whose existence I hadn't known of.

As with Kerrywood, I've had some success in writing to informants on death certificates.

I always include a stamped addressed envelope (from Australia, you might use IRCs)

I always explain first why I am writing and what my interest is and I never ask too many questions with the first correspondence. Be tactful and polite.

With this being so recent, I think you stand a good chance of success.

Kerrywood, Geoffers and Ali. Yesterday evening I did draft out a letter to the informant who still appears, by doing a google, to live at the address on the d/c. An unusual address!! I agree there is just no other way to get the information you need. The stamped self-addressed envelope is something I did not think of but an excellent idea. Should have a result in a few weeks. To all of the above: Letter worked a treat. Had an email last evening. Informant was not a relative but a friend the deceased had known since the 60's. More than happy to help with whatever information they may have that I want. Thank you all very much, that is something else I have learned. Liz.
