Town Missionary?

Anyone able to tell me what a Town Missionary was/did Please.

Probably someone who worked in the town as a Missionary, spreading the word of God and trying to help those who were destitute.

Add to your homework the history of the London City Mission (which still has Missionaries). Choose History on the About Us tab on its home page and download the PDF file from the link at the bottom of that page.

I had one person transcribed as Town Missionary, but on viewing the original image, I was convinced it said Town Treasurer. Just a thought.

Having searched through later censuses I found he was a Lay Preacher so that would fit with Town Missionary.
