Default Two children lost and a misplaced death

This request is for Ginny who is new to this site. Ginny has chapter and verse on the following family but there are two gaps, so can we all put our heads together.
In 1841 Benjamin Gregory and his wife Eliza are living in Bath road, Worcester with their children. Phillip Jesse, Emma and Hannah survive. Benjamin is a boat builder and the family have moved up from Tewkesbury. Ben dies on 16th Feb 1842, St Peters, Worcester.
Now I had found and posted earlier on this site that Eliza had died 5th Oct 1842, St Peters, Worcester.
Ginny has asked where I found this record of Eliza's death and for the life of me can I find it now. I didnt dream it up. Can you check this if you have other sources available.
Phillip Jesse Gregory, Emma Gregory and Hannah, do not appear on the 1851 census anywhere.
Ginny and I think that because this family had strong conections with the waterway people and that these children have been made orphans and may have been taken in by a family on the water ways. If you have records or an interest on the people that travelled the rivers and canals could you have a look to see if the children are there. Of course Phillip Jesse could have gone to sea.
1851 is where the gaps comes. Ginny has a fine record of the family in Tewkesbury and from 1861 her records are ok.
So can you find Eliza Gregorys death in 1842 and where the children are in 1851.
    Cheers
    Dave.

Eliza Gregory, aged 35, buried 5 October 1842 at St Peter the Great Worcester.
    NBI and other sources.

In 1851 are the children with Eliza's parents, enumerated under their surname and not Gregory?

Thats where I saw it. My cd wont work on my new computer.
    Good idea Pam.
It would be natural for the children to go live with their grand parents.
    Cheers
    Dave.

Thanks for all your help Dave. I'm sorry to have been such a nuisance.

Thanks for the info Pam. Eliza's death is not recorded on Free BMD. Is there any way I can obtain a GRO index in order to obtain a death certificate? (assuming that there is death certificate).I am not familiar with the infomation given on the NBI.

St. Peter's, Worcester does not exist. It has been demolished. Does anyone know where the parish records are kept?

I have not identified Eliza's parents (or Benjamin's), but her maiden name was Price. I have tried to find Prices in both Tewkesbury where the family originated and in Worcester, but without success. There is an Emma Price living with the family in Worcester in 1841, but I cannot trace her after 1841. There is a William Price who was a witness at Eliza and Benjamin's wedding in 1832 (possibly a brother?), but I cannot trace him either.
I have checked both Tewkesbury and Worcester workhouse inmates for 1851, but cannot find the children as Gregorys or Prices.

I have no idea what happened to the children after their mother died. There were five surviving children: Philip Jesse, Eliza, Hannah, Emma and William. I have picked up Philip Jesse in a newspaper article in 1855 and Emma in the 1861 census, but no trace of the others can be found.

The Gregory family have strong connections with the Rivers Severn and Avon and it has been suggested that the children were looked after by the waterman community, but I have no idea what records (if any) could help me.

Any further suggestions would be very welcome. I am not afraid of hard work, but I live too far away from either Gloucester or Worcester to visit record offices.

    Hi Ginny,

    Which parish was St Peter?

Was it Worcester St Peter the Great?

    http://www.worcesterbmsgh.co.uk/Worc...rTheGreat.html

That shows the church was demolished, which makes me think it could be that one.

The parish records are all at:

    Worcestershire Library and History Centre
    Trinity Street, Worcester, WR1 2PW
    Tel: (01905) 765922 / 765924
    Email: WLHC@worcestershire.gov.uk

I know you are miles away and can't visit, but its possible they may be able to do a search for you if you e-mail or call them?

Hope that helps, (sorry if it doesn't!)

    Rachel

    Hi Rachel
Yes, it was St. Peter the Great, Worcester and it has been demolished. I have sent all the details to WLHC in the hope that they may be able to help.
Thanks for your interest and help.
