Default finding my GGF in Carlisle

My GreatGrandFather, William Henry Scott was born in Carlisle in 02/10/1896; the year is confirmed by his age on his marriage cetrificate, and on army medical papers. However, I ordered his birth certificate, which give his mother's name as Agnes Jane Scott, and to add difficulties to my reseach, no father was recorded on this certificate. I have been told by my family that they had heard his family came from Fife, Scotland. Before his birth, Agnes worked in Carlisle in service. I have been unable to find her together with her child in the 1901 census, as you would expect, and I couldn't find them in the 1911 census. I have looked back to the census prior to his birth for Agnes, there are a number, I couldn't decide which is my Agnes!! I have had a suggestion that my GGF when born could have been placed in the workhouse, or a children home, as she would be a single mother without means to to support herself and her child. Can anyone help me track down them in the census? or tell me where I could look for my GGF in the workhouse, or a children home?

    Thanks

    Craig

There is also a marriage in the June quarter 1907 for an Agnes Jane Scott in the Tynemouth 10b page 551. Could be her.

If the 1907 marriage is your Agnes then she can be found in the 1911 census as Agnes Jane Turnbull b.1880 Cleston Cumberland and is now living in Workington

Robin C has found a death certificate on this closed thread for a William Henry Scott born 2 Oct 1896, died 1972 in Carlisle.

If you have a birth certificate showing your William Henry Scott born in Carlisle 2 Oct 1896 and this death certificate is for your William Henry Scott, then I'm not sure why you think he may have been born in Fife, Scotland, as mentioned on the closed thread?

    Hi Craig,
Not sure if we have same family but my g/grand parents are Francis Scott born 25/9/1819 Canobie Scotland and Mary Ann Kennedy born 25/4/1829 Arnan Scotland and my grand father was Matthew Scott born 1851 at Carlisle and he had a sister called Agnes born 1854 at North Ormsby and a brother named William born 1859 at North Ormsby. I am hitting brickwalls with Matthew and when he came to Australia and then returned to England, leaving children behind in Aust.
    Regards

Judy, sorry,I took a while to respond.I cannot say that your grandfather's sister Agnes could be the mother of my grandfather. Infact I have no idea!! I would love to discover I had ancestors in Australia!!!
