Default 1909 and 1911 census - Sarah Elizabeth Berry

    Hi all,

I would be very grateful for help in finding Sarah Elizabeth Berry born 1853 in the West London Registration District....Christened in January 1854 in St. Clement Danes, Westminister.
In 1891 Sarah was working as a servant in Norton Folgate, London.

No immediately obvious matches in 1901, but then looking at freebmd, she may well have married.

    hi Geoffers,

Thanks for having a look for me......much appreciated.

I tried the BMD but it is not possible to pin any particular Sarah Berry down.

The IGI shows an Jan 1854 baptism of a Sarah Maria BERRY.

Presumably you have got the birth certificate, do other details correspond?

Westminster and West London RD don't really tie up with each other.

When and where did she marry?

    Marriage:

    Elizabeth Sarah Berry 1875 Woolwich vol 1d p 1465 4Q
On same page is John Chrouk? Brown and Vincent John Rogers

There is also a marriage of Sarah Maria Berry in 1886 Norfolk.

    Birth: Elizabeth Sarah Berry 1855 Greenwich vol 1d p 584 2Q

The birth is a registration and she could have been born/baptized before she was registered.

Please do come back with some more information if you have it.

There are several possible entries. The earlier census have two born in St. James, one with a mother Rebbecca and another with mother Sarah. There appears to be quite a few named - Sarah, everything but Elizabeth, Berry

    Hi Mutley,

Sarah's mother's name was Sarah Margaret (nee Pratt) born 1833 in Cripplegate, London.

There is a marriage for John Berry and Sarah Margaret Pratt in Jun Qtr 1852 West London RD. In the 1861 census in Cornwall Street, Lambeth, Surrey, (RG9; Piece: 363; Folio: 127; Page: 24) they have children, one of whom is Sarah A Berry, age 8, b Midx, St James.

If as you say the mother's name was Pratt, then it appears reasonable that this could be your Sarah. On searching the GRO records, there is a birth reg in St James RD, Westminster, for Sarah Ann Berry Jun Qtr 1853.
I know this doesn't find her after 1891, but if you obtain a copy of this birth record then you should have a solid starting point.

Incidentally, Sarah A Berry is in he 1871 census age 17, dressmaker, still with the family in Brighton Terrace, Lambeth, RG10; Piece: 681; Folio: 38; Page: 24
