Question Liverpool WWI memorial - list of names?

Is there any memorial or book of remembrance in Liverpool, listing all the Liverpool men who died? I see there is a list in the Town Hall, with an online database, but my man doesn't seem to be on it.

He is THOMAS LEE, Private 14600 of the 12th Bn The King's (Liverpool Regiment), who died on 23rd March 1918 aged 31.

I have his entry on the CWGC site, his medal card, his service record and the Echo announcement of his death, but where in Liverpool is his name written?

    Hope someone knows.

I have a copy of a transcript of over 13000 names from the Roll of Honour which is in a special area within Liverpool Town Hall. There is no T.Lee, of the King's Regiment or any other unit on this list.
The Roll was compiled by families handing in names at an office near the Town Hall and sadly has many errors of detail and is by no means a full record. Many families did not wish to have a name entered, or did not know about it. It only shws names, initials, regiment/corps/ship etc, sometimes the battalion number, but nothing about date or place of death.
You can get a view of the Hall of Remembrance by this:
    http://www.civichalls.liverpool.gov....hall/index.asp

Have you an address for your man? He may be on a church or club or business memorial. There are dozens around the city.
The Town Hall staff will consider applications for names to be added to 'late entry' panels.
[My uncle also served in 12/KLR, but died earlier in the war.]

PS The Anglican Cathedral also has a Book of Remembrance but I know nothing about its contents or access.

Thanks for that, daggers. Yes, it was the Town Hall list I looked at, but didn't find my great-uncle Tommy. I might look into getting his name added.

The book at the Anglican Cathedral sounds interesting - not heard about that.

Tommy Lee lived at 41 Coleridge Street. He was originally RC but married a non-catholic at St Phillip C of E. He was a tailor and worked for C Brockhill of North John Street. Sounds like a small employer, so perhaps there won't be a memorial there.

The problem is that Liverpool is such a big city, that it was probably beyond the city fathers to imagine a memorial with all the names carved on it. Little towns can do War Memorials with 50 or 100 names, but it is harder in big cities.

    Thanks again

Don't know if you are aware that you can get a photograph of his name on the Pozieres Memorial, France, area Somme. The War Graves Photographic Project (TWGPP) will supply e-mail copy £3, hard copy £5. I've looked and it's there. Panel 21 to23.

Thanks billysax. I have been to Pozieres myself, and seen his name, left a poppy and a message. It's just a shame his name isn't anywhere in Liverpool.

    Hi Garstonite
Thanks for the suggestion. Tommy Lee lived at 41 Coleridge Street, Kensington, so nearer the city centre, not in one of the Liverpool "villages". He was originally RC but married a non-catholic at St Phillip C of E, so would probably not be in either church. if they have memorials (although I haven't looked). He was a tailor and worked for C Brockhill of North John Street. Sounds like a small employer, so perhaps there won't be a memorial there. Barbara

I have just heard that some names have been added to the Liverpool WWI Roll of Honour at the request of families and are to be dedicated at a ceremony in the Town Hall next week. All have been checked as to accuracy of service details and Liverpool links.

    Hi Daggers
How interesting! Thanks for that. Is this the names up on the wall in the Town Hall? Can anyone go or is it invitation-only?
And thanks for your PM. Barbara

I have never had a problem when visiting the Town Hall, just asked at the reception area inside, but they do have functions when the Hall of Remembrance is not accessible. Worth ringing in advance.
