Default Albert Charles Thornhill South Staffordshire

I am hoping someone will be able to help me on my way in finding information about my grandad. I have searched on various sites but havent found anything substantial that I can follow up.
The following is as much info as I know:-

    Albert Charles Thornhill B: 1909 D:1971
    Served in South Staffordshire Regiment

I know its limited info but if anyone can shed some light I would be most grateful

    Default Well, very interesting

I can't help you with the military side of things I am afraid, but others will, so stick around and perhaps try a post on the WW2 forum just click on the underlined link and start a new thread, there is a sticky at the top about the National Archives which may be of interest to you.

Working back from your Albert, you have his birth certificate and the names of his parents so the logical thing to do is to find their marriage certificate and their father's names.

The 1911 census provided by Lincoln Lad says married 11 years, I hunted high and low and could not find a suitable marriage entry.

    BUT

    I found these entries _

    THORNHILL William B - March 1918 - Wandsworth 1d 1262 married a Newlett

    No corresonding NEWLETT lady

    HOWLETT Florence M - March 1918 - Wandsworth 1d 1283 married a Thornhill

Going back to Mr. Thornhill and viewing the image it could indeed be HOWLETT and 1d 1283, so this could be your marriage, though not as early as claimed.

I think it might be an idea to order this certificate as I suspect William may have been married before, the certificate will tell you if he was a bachelor and she a spinster and their fathers names of course (well hopefully)

Re-looking at the 1911 census image, Florence had 6 children born live to this marriage and the ages of the children are written as Stanley 3 9/12, Albert 1 9/12, William 6/12 not 6 as I stated before.

I am guessing that his birth registration must be Dec quarter 1910, Wandsworth 1d 582 as William A Thornhill.
