    Smile Ancona, Italy

    Hiya,

I have a Stephen VINANEA, born in Ancona, Italy, 1805 I've no idea if the spelling of this surname is correct. Don't know if anybody can tell me if it's a ligitimate surname for that area? He moved to the UK and is listed in censuses as the father of John, Agnes and Stephen Vinanea in 1830's.

Anybody got any ideas as to where I can find info?

The Anglo Italian Family History Society would be a good place.

If you can get to TNA, the records of the Aliens Acts 1826 and 1836 may provide some useful information. See this research guide.

Vinanea is not a surname fund in Italy today. 1805 is before civil records began in Ancona (about 1873)

Here is a list of surnames in Marche beginning with VIN.
Microfilmed records at the LDS start in 1866 for both parish and civil records.
    Hope this helps

Thanks Tatanna, I am sure the spelling of the surname won't be correct, but hopefully I will find a similar name, thanks for the address of the website.
I'll have a look and see if I can make any progress as to where this family may have originated.

I know this is a very old thread but I stumbled on this thread by accident. Since I have been doing a lot of Italian research for my husband's side of the family, was curious as to whether you were able to find information on the Italian ancestor you were looking for?
