Default Old pictures of East End Streets

Does anyone know where, online or archives etc, I can find old pictures of East End streets or scenery - particularly Bethnal Green/Whitechapel?

Hi, I'm not sure which period you would like. Are these any use?

For earlier dates, try googling Collage Guildhall Library (in quotes). You can search their illustrations database using place names as keywords.

Regardless of the period required, these photo's are wonderful. They say a picture is worth a thousand words and this is never more true.

I had a giggle at the market scene with the baby cots containing the dog. It is not named but, I bet that was Club Row.

Was the "Knocker Upper" using a pea shooter aiming at the upstairs windows?

Regardless of the period, the pictures give a brilliant insight into life in the 'good old days'

Aren't they marvellous thanks for posting the link Lizzy - I have ancestors who were in Mile End Road and also, Nelsons Field in Merton. These pictures are very evocative.

Local authorities often have a good collection of old photographs and you would probably find it worth your while to take a trip to the London Metropolitan Archives and, for example, to Tower Hamlets Local History and Archives Library (25,000 illustrations, according to the web site)
