Walter Sturmer married Elizabeth Pearson who was sister to my gt grandmother Florence Kate Pearson who married George Stedman. When Florence died in 1901, these two really brought my grandmother up.

    Sheepishly!
I did say at the beginning that George & my grandmother were living with his sister in law in 1911

Even more sheepishly - Can I borrow that white flag please?
I suppose I sort-of glossed over that bit because you never mentioned any names, which always stick out more than relationships.

I'm not very good with 'wars'. But what was going on between 1881 and 1898? If George went abroad and was bitten by a monkey, where is it likely to be??

Any idea how I might find out where and with whom he could have been posted? I'm useless at military.

I've now looked at the TNA and don't think I found anything about George's military life. Very complicated site.

    Where cen I look now?

    A belated update.

I finally found George's army records from 1886-1894.
He was mostly in India and was indeed quite poorly on several occasions - but no sign of a monkey bite, although that is not to say that it didn't happen!!
