John Harris is my G-G Grandfather. He was born around 1825 in Worcester and worked as an iron moulder. He married Frances Elizabeth Pursell born around 1834 in Worcester. The only information I have on them is the 1851 and 1871 census. Their daughter Mary Ann Pursell Harris was my great grandmother, she was born 1850.
Can anyone help with any further information?
Thanks

Hiya Elma ...the marriage is on www.freebmd.org.uk
Frances Elizabeth Pursell / John Harris in Worcester Sep Qtr 1851 ref 18 619 ..
also on freebmd
Mary Ann Harris b sep 1849 Worcester 18 515....
Mary Ann Harris b mar qtr 1849 Worcester 18 596.
so she is one of these and I would think she wasn`t born in 1850 and Pursell is not mentioned....hope this helps..

If you check the 1881 free census in family search there is only one fanny harris of the right vintage and birthplace but she is the head of the household.
I have copied the data to the table below (to avoid copyright issues)
Fanny HARRIS Head M 43 Worcester, England Gloveress Female
Henry HARRIS S U 17 Worcester, England Tin Man Male
Fanny HARRIS D U 15 Worcester, England Gloveress Female
Jane HARRIS D U 13 Worcester, England Female
Edwin HARRIS S U 12 Worcester, England Scholar Male
Kate HARRIS D U 10 Worcester, England Scholar Female
There are about 23 John Harris's around that date but there is one who is a lodger as followes:
Birth Year <1825>
Birthplace Shelsley, Worcester, England
Age 56
Occupation Labourer
Perhaps the parents had had a seperation or he was away working

Mary Ann Harris
Confusingly I have Mary Ann's birth certificate and she was born on 29th December 1850. I have managed to pick her up in 1851 and in 1871 census after she had married my great -grandfather Edwin Godfrey, Sadly she died shortly after.
I therefore was trying to get more information about her parents and family
as I know so little about them.
It is such a common name.
Thanks everyone who is trying

am I the only one who finds the dates "confusing"? You say that John HARRIS was born about 1825 and married about 1834 - I don't think so. He would have only been about 9 years old.

Hi Nicolina....I think you may have misread the post ...it states that Elizabeth Pursell was b abt 1834, not they married...found the marriage in 1851....
Elma...apologies for misleading you re Mary Ann ...just re checked freebmd thru to 1851 and she`s not on there....still ,it doesn`t matter as you have her birth cert....allan

If Allan has found the marriage reference wouldn't it be a good idea to order the marriage certificate which should give the names and occupations of both fathers.
That would be a starting point to search 1841 census.
There is one Betsy in 1841 with father David , no mother but until you have the marriage certificate that could be a red herring.

Mary Ann Harris
Mary Ann Harris was born on 29th December 1850 at Nash's Buldings, Worcester.
Informant X The Mark of Frances Harris- Mother- Nash Buildings, Worcester.
Frances in fact did not get married until later in the year and was Frances Pursell.
There is some confusion of the birth date.as the date was amended to 29th Dec 1851 but then it was registered on 4th April 1851! We also know Mary Ann appeared on the 1851 census.
