Dear all,
Can anyone help me? My Grandad was born in West Ham in 1901, his mother and father were living together in Walthamstow at the time of his birth. When i tried to trace my grandads movements through the 1911 census i found no trace of him (he would be 10), but, i was able to trace his parents. At the time of the 1911 census his father was lodging with a family and his mother was now a house keeper in a seperate house, both in the local area of Walthamstow. Would it have been possible that my grandad had been sent to a poor house if his parents had fallen on hard times? We're records taken of children in poor houses in the 1911 census? Which poor house would of been likely to take him?

I've got a similar problem in reverse with my grandfather, in that I can't find the
I found him living with his 2 older brothers at an address, but I couldn't find their parents or younger sister. I eventually tracked down their sister living with neighbours (would have been next door), but still don't know where the parents are. I am pretty sure the father had died, but I know for a fact that the mother was alive as I have photos of her in the 1930s.
What I'm getting at is don't limit your searches to poor houses, etc. Could be living with neighbours, friends, complete strangers (as far as you're concerned).

He should be shown in the census - but the details may not be as accurately recorded on the schedule.
Try searching just for Albert FREE born 1901 +/- 2 years and born in Essex.
(edit - you mentioned Walthamstow in your original message so I tried searching using that as a birthplace - as a hint, you might try that yourself and you might get lucky with a boy who was living in Edmonton in the 1911 census).

Hi Freeb checked 1911 can see your problem, was Albert the first born, ie did have any other siblings born prior to 1911.
Did not have time earlier to fully check 1911, but how far did you reach, to say "Where is he"!
Sorry typos using mobile!
PS could he be with his Gran/Aunt?
Best Regards

Hi folks,
If he was living with anyone else at the time of the 1911 census, wouldn't he 'show up'?
I don't get any returns for Albert Henry when I search. But I will look into Jane Adams FREE ALBERT LEON?

Hi FREEB,
And surely also into the lad (no middle name) living in Edmonton in 1911 mentioned by Geoffers!
