    Default this is really spooky

    Hi all

As I was going to work last Monday afternoon, I went into GFHS resource centre in the morning. While I was looking at some information on one of their transcriped parish registers, I heard the name Herbert Burrows.

My ears pricked up immediately and I asked where the said person was from.

    - Charlton Kings came the response.

    - Then we could be related was my reply.

The man just like me was really surprised.

I have since been able to confirm the link, although I did not have his line on my tree, the addressess that his family lived at were the same as mine.

Given that he only popped in because he saw the sign to the Archives, where GFHS is now based, what a coincidence.

What is more scarey for me is that until last Monday I had never met any of my fathers family, my grandparents died long before I was born and my father and his sister were estranged.

    Spooky or what!

    I think that is fantastic.

It always amazes me who one can meet when you are out and about.

my father and his sister were estranged
Same as mine and still are. They are even twins to boot.

Can't talk to my Dad at all about his family. It's taboo.

Makes it difficult to get information except what I can find online and the help here of course.

    Way to go

    Wendy

unfortunately both my father who died in 2001 and his sister who died in 1993, are not around to ask questions of... not that I ever met his sister. you never know he may relent at some point.

I think it is very sad about family estrangements - some I can heartily understand, but most of these "fallouts" are trivial and serve no purpose except to provide angst among many people. A child is not responsible for the actions of adults, nor should they be "shunned" just because they are related!

In my case Frances took money from my parents which had been given to her to pay the rent and various insurance policies.

My mother last saw Frances in the street in Birmingham, around 1959.

My father in Hereford, when she came to take minutes for her boss.

He took some info to the meeting for his boss and when he was going to be introdunced to her, he said I know who she is and walked out.

The person holding the meeting came to see Dad after the meeting and was most shocked when dad said, yes that is my sister. that was around 1965 so after I was born. families yes... ummm

can I just ask that you put the name of the family history society in and not just the initial letters because there are three - no four - societies with the same initials and it is good to know which one you are talking about.
