Someone, somewhere, gave me the information that my g-grandmother Isett Wonnacott was born or christened in 1817 in South Tawton, but I have not been able to check this information through my local FHS.
She appears in the 1841 census at King Street, Tavistock with her parents William Wonnacott, a smith, & Mary, former name unknown. By then Isett was married to Richard Williams, who was a mine worker and away from home, and had her 1st child Mary, aged 1.
Is anyone able to check the South Tawton registers, and perhaps come up with her mother's full name and possibly the date of the marriage and other details of her family?
Shall be very grateful for any information, FredP.

Yes, DOB7, I did try quite a while ago and also was in touch with Paul Wonnacott who set it up, but to no avail.
I have now done so again, and tried a South Tawton link, but ended up back in another posting made to this site.
On another occasion I made contact with a relative of a Wonnacott , but he had even less positive information than I, so it was impossible to make any connection between the families.
Still searching, FredP.

Devon Family History Society has 51 Wonnacotts in the birth/baptisms. Just insert surname in the surname drop down box - it will show all occurrences. Very cheap to get an instant printout. Looked at IGI but nothing showed up.

Had a look in the South Tawton baptism register for 1817 and the only Wonnacott I could see, baptised on April 6th, was William, son of Charles and Mary, abode Addiscott, father's occupation, labourer.

Isett Wonnacott
Thank you all for your interest. I was aware of the prevalence of the name Wonnacott in Cornwall, but everything points to this father, mother and daughter at least all being born in Devon. Isett, I was told, was a Devon version of Isolde. Most researchers seem to have difficulty in transcribing it accurately, but I have seen a record of someone with a rather similar name born in Great Torrington, though not in the right period.
Thanks again, FredP.

Isett
Here is what we have now - download http://www.wonnacott.org/genpdf/others3_Isett_htm.pdf . However we still do not know her mothers name as we need to find her parents marriage records which seem to be illusive.

Thank you all,
From Find-my-Past's new Devonshire Parish Registers site I have now found that she was baptised at Sourton on 12th January 1817 as Izat. Her parents were William Wonnacott, blacksmith and Mary Worden, who were married at Sourton on 13th August 1811. Strangely, the site does not seem to list any other Wordens there, but there were a number resident in Sourton according to both the 1841 and 1851 censuses.
William Worden who registered William Wonnacott's death in 1850 would appear to be Mary's brother. He was living then, and in 1851 at 9 Taylor's Square, Tavistock. In 1841 he had been at West Linnacombe, Sourton, mis-transcribed as Wooden!
Thanks again, FredP.
