Question ST. CUTHBERTS LYTHAM BASTARDY PAPERS

Anyone know the existence and whereabouts of bastardy papers for St. Cuthbert's Lytham. I am seeking two fathers, possibly the same.

    1. Isabella Ormond baptised March 11th, 1863 (father not identified in the baptism register).
    2. Ellen Whiteside baptised April 7th, 1867.

    Thanks. Sandgrown

    Default Bastardy records

    Hi

Have you tried Lancashire Record Office? looking at the National Archives site it would appear there are some bastardy records for Lytham there.

    Best of luck

Those dates are too recent for bastardy procedures to be the responsibility of the parish.

There is a chance of finding copies of affiliation orders among the records of the appropriate Poor Law Union. Otherwise it is probably a case of searching petty session records, which may have been reported in the local press.

I would advise getting hold of the book My Ancestor was a Bastard which you can buy through Parish Chest. The book describes in detail procedures for tracking down records relating to illegitimacy.
