I was at the end of a very long posting that detailed quite a lot of info. on ancestor - war record in 1917, siblings and paremts, immigration and work history census info etc. I'd previewed and corrected some entries, so it was still 'live'.
I went to the 'outhouse' and we had a power outage - darn it - and I lost the whole thing because I didn't save it
Needless to say - I'm not a happy camper. I'm going to have a beer - to heck with it

Oh poor you, why does it always happen to the longest posts. I now write anything of any length in word then copy and paste it.

AH but Astoria, if you had not saved it in Word, you would still have the same problem if you had a power outage

In word you can set the save options (in tools) to ‘save auto recovery’ every minute, so if your typing a long message it will automatically save in the background and if you have a power outage at least you will only have lost what you put in in the last minute and when you open word again there it is on the screen.
Just had to turn my putta off (crash it) to make sure it worked.
Yep just it works.
The document that opens ‘Document1 (Recovered)
