Smile Missing death GEORGE POLLARD abt 1818-+1884

I am having difficulty in finding the death record for George Pollard.
He was born in Nuttall, Ramsbottom, Bury in about 1818 and can be found on the 1841 census there working as a cotton weaver. He then moves to Clayton Le Moors with his wife Judith Jane (Slady/ Sledding/ Sladen) and does various jobs in cotton mills from 1851-1871
From 1881 he gives his occupation as "green grocer".
At his daughter, Alice's wedding in 1883 at Preston register office the father's occupation is "Green grocer" although, strangely the name is John Pollard not George.
George is the informant at his wife's death in 1884 and again the occupation is "green grocer".
From 1881 his occupation is given as green grocer and he was living in Napolean Street, Clayton-Le-Moors.
The only death records that seemed to be close are:
George Pollard aged 75 Blackburn Northern in 1891 (lancs bmd BN/14/42)
    or
Geprge Pollard aged 64 Great Harwood in 1890 (G.HAR/27/62)
I applied for both these certificates from local register offices but the registrars informed me that the details on the certificates do not match my information.
    Any ideas please?

I've moved this thread from 'Problems Navigating Brit-Gen' which is really for finding your way around the forum to Lancashire where you may receive more help from those with local knowledge.

If he left a will, or admon was granted, you should find an entry in the Probate Calendar, which has been copied onto film and can be seen at many record offices. The Probate Calendar is easy to use and provides more detail than the GRO index to deaths - it even gives you a date of death. If you can get to a record office, it might be a way to try and locate a record.

Just to check, are you sure that references to John and George both relate to the same person?

    Thanks for that Geoffers,
I can get to the Preston records office.
George is named as father of Alice Pollard on her birth certificate and is then working as an overlooker in a cotton factory. I am able to trace the family through the census until 1881 when he begins to call himself a grocer or green grocer. On his wife Judith Jane's death certificate in 1884 his occupation is "green grocer". A contact on GR says that there was only one grocers shop in Clayton Le Moors although I have not been able to independently verify[/COLOR] this. On Alice's wedding certificate in 1883 the father is named as Johnccupation grocer. Initially, before I found Judith Jane's death certificate, I presumed that another relative had taken over the shop and the role of father and that George must be dead.
Perhaps I need to start again at the beginning

No need to be sorry, it is very easy for a mod to move a thread so you just type away (that is much more important) and we will look after you.

Just a quick update. Thanks to this suggestion I found the probate record for George Pollard. He died on 14th May 1890. His addresses are given as 45 Napolean Street and also 2 Hill Street which is the address his daughter Alice. my GGrandmother was married form. The only discrepancy now is the age at death which is given as 64. All the other documentation I have suggests that he should have been 71.As
far as the confusion between names. (Alices's fathers name is given as John on her marriage certificate but George on her birth certificate) I have checked all possibilities that I can think of but everything else seems to tally. The fun is in the searching however so I will keep on attempting to verify everything ...
