Hi, I have been doing a bit more searching - the infant Alexander Scott Pirnie was the illegitimate son of my great grandmother Margaret Pirnie. He was born 1890 (no father declared) and died in December 1895 - drowned. Very tragic. Interestingly, my grandmother Isabella Porteous was born (also illegitimate) October 1895 (so the death of Alexander two months after my grandmothers birth must have been incredibly devastating. My great grandmother, Margaret Pirnie, married James William Porteous in 1896 and they had another child, James William in 1897.
I believe Margaret Pirnie's sister Elizabeth also had a son out of wedlock, also named Alexander - This Alexander I believe lived and there is a family tree "trail" (Scot/Nixon) from this line.
With all my searching, Margaret Pirnie has "vanished". The 1901 scottish census has Margaret Pirnie, James Porteous, Ellen and James living in Edinburgh. The 1911 scottish census has Ellen and James (children) living with their aunt and uncle in Dunbar. James Porteous is living in Sunderland as a lodger with Louisa Young (who he later marries) but I can find no record of Margaret (Maggie) Pirnie/Porteous. I can't find her in the 1911 census (Scottish or English), I can't find a death record (Scotland or England) yet when my grandmother married my grandfather in 1921 she was listed as deceased. This is a mystery that is "eating away at me" James Porteous did not re-marry until after Margaret Pirnie's death but if she was living in 1911, why was she not living with her children? and why had James Porteous gone to Sunderland (where he stayed until he died in 1927) and left wife and children behind. Any insights into this mystery would be much appreciated.
Finally, any knowledge of any photographs of Pirnie family? I would imaging that the odd portrait would have been taken and would love to have a copy of same.

Hello again, I've tried posting twice to you but it hasn't popped up!!! So will try again. I have very little data on Agnes Dickson. I would dearly love more info as she is my direct maternal ancestry line.gggg grandmother. I know that Agnes Dickson married James Duncan on 7.3.1779 at St Ninians, Stirlingshire (James DUncan and Agnes Dickson were named as parents of my ggg grandmother Janet Duncan on her death certificate 1861 Kirkliston.) James Duncan was a farmer. On Scotlands People Agnes and James had two sons, James (1780) and John (1782) but no record of Janet (1786) shown on SP. Searching SP for Agnes's birth came up with zilch. I found a few in midlothian and east lothian but tend to discount them. What connection do you have to this family line? Any info on Dickson/Duncan lines would be appreciated, as I have nada.
I also note you're located in Ireland. My other ancestry search is my direct paternal line which has lead me to a brick wall circa 1801 in Northern Ireland. However, as I don't know the parish they lived/born I can't trace further. Has PRONI developed an on line search tool like Scotlands People? Again, any tips from the emerald isle would be appreciated. Look forward to your response. Shelagh

Agnes Dickison
G'day Sheel
Located in Ireland yes.
Here is what I have on Agnes Crabtree:
AGNES CRABTRE Marriages:
Spouse: PATRICK DICKISON Marriage: 27 DEC 1692 Aberlady, East Lothian, Scotland
Quote from the lady who has done this wonderful work "As part of the Coldingham one-place study I have worked through the kirk session minutes for some years, noting testificates given by people entering and leaving the parish, essentially certificates of good conduct needed by people moving from one parish to another."
Excerpt from this:
1729 Apr 6 Given one for Patrick Dickison & his spouse - this is Patrick and Agnes.
Patrick may have died but cannot find any info on this. Agnes probably re married if she had children to support.
If you have time please look at these pages. Most interesting

Hi, there has been some activity on this family line recently. I am particularly interested if there any photos of pirnie family? I have one photo of Margaret pirnie (posted on ancestry) and there must be others. I would love to see photo of Alexander pirnie and Isabella. Any news??
