    Question Unemployment Insurance Acts

    Hello all,

In regards to the above sentence, what does it mean? I have a copy, from 1930, of an original birth certificate and at the top of it, it says

"This certificate is issued for the purposes of unemployment insurance acts and for no other use or purposes whatever".

all of it is typed apart from that phrase. I assume as it was when the great depression was on and it was a way of claiming benefits? If not, then what is it about?

    many thanks

You had to prove your age to join the unemployment insurance scheme of the time. It's no different today is it?

You could get a cut price certificate for various statutory purposes hence the official endorsement.

Some detail and parliamentary discussion of the Unemployment Insurance Acts can be found on Hansard.

It's the scheme not the benefits.

It's what was replaced by National Insurance.
