Askern Main Colliery-Albert Edward Davies

My gt. grandfather Albert Edward Davies was born in about 1884 in Newton Heath Manchester. He married Mary Ann King and went to live in Hemsworth Yorkshire. He was a coalminer, working alongside his brothers in law and father in law who were also boarders at his house. He was killed in 1922 in an accident at Askern Main Colliery when he was crushed by a coal tub. He left 5 small children, my grandma Olive was the eldest then aged 16. She went to Dewsbury to work in a woollen mill and lived with an aunt she remained in Dewsbury all her life. I am having trouble finding exact birth details for Albert as 2 different censuses give different birth places-Newton Heath and Bradford Manchester. Manchester register office said it would take 6-8 weeks to process my application for a birth certificate! Other R.Os usually take 3-4 days! Can anyone help?

I have only just made a great leap forward and found all my father's father's relatives. My problem was I had born in Bradford - assumed that was Yorkshire, when my father was from Manchester. Now found that there is a Bradford about 3m east of the centre of Manchester and that unlocked the rest!

I do not have the birth certificate of your Albert Edward. However, I can solve the census problem.
Bradford, Manchester is on the A6010, about 3m east of the centre of Manchester (would have been a separate village in the 1900s?) and Newton Heath is between 1 and 1.5 miles North of that, around the A62 (Ref Googlemaps). I guess he was born between the 2.

I would be interested in your ancestors. My father was Albert Edward Davies, born 1924 (died 1964 before I had chance to ask many questions). He was the son of John Davies, your Albert Edward's younger brother. I strongly suspect that, as your albert Edward died in a mining accident in 1922, that my father was named for his recently deceased uncle (his father's brother).

Do you have any details of John? - my grandfather - or indeed any other details of ancestors - John, George, George etc - I only have what is on the internet - no living relatives on that side and no records either.
