My Cornish ancestors are Wallis s (never sure how to show the plural) from the far West, but migrated to London. I didn't know about them until nearly 13 years after moving here!

The link may be via the Bell folk.
Over the centuries they kept marrying into "my" Say and Bouch families!
Mary Bell married Thomas Say in1678
Margaret married Richard Bouch 1638
Joseph married Sara Bouch
Jane married Joseph Bouch 1800
Elizabeth married William Say
But no Roddan on my tree.
But if the Bell strike a chord, let me know
Often wives are of great help when ancestor-tracing!

Hi Christine S,
I too live in Aus, and I have connections with David Spence (b. 1850ish) from Glasgow. HIs parents were Thomas Spence and Christina Dow. They were married 11 August 1844, but have yet to find out birth dates etc. Thomas was an engineer. Any distant connections?

David Spence
Hi Louann
My husband's Spence line is firmly entrenched in Yorkshire, then moved to Newcastle. However there is a David Spence b1770 and he had a large of family including many sons, but no Thomas. But maybe a son of a son of etc moved to Glasgow and that is where the connection might come from? Spence was a fairly common name.
Scottish family is harder to trace I have found, as you have to pay for specific information, via the www.
scotlandspeople.gov.uk website. There is the https://www.familysearch.org which is an amazing resource - I just quickly searched Christine Dow in Scotland 1800-1860 and lots came up so if you haven't tried that site you may have some luck.
Another good one to try is FreeCEN - they have free access to Census records including Scotland but not all yet available - wow I couldn't resist and did a search and I found them! It's always such a buzz when you find something :-) You may of course already have this information. Your David's age is given as 3 weeks, in which case, since he Census was held on the night of the 30th March, it places him born around the end of Feb/beginning of March.
If you do find there is a link to Yorkshire way back let me know, as I have traced back to 1580 (well it ll fits but of course I can't be certain)!
Regards
Christine

Dear Christine,
thanks for your great and useful reply. I've just purchased credit with Scotlands people and am keen to begin the search. What a kick I get when I have a successful find - no wonder it's addictive! I'll let you know if I find any connections.
cheers,
Louann

Hi Christine, my name is Mary Sinclair 4/1/63. I am the daughter of Thomas Pringle Sinclair 2/3/39, Mother, Mary Elizabeth Sinclair (nee Doyle) 28/3/38.
On dad's side: My grandad was William Sinclair born in Scotland married to Elizabeth Sinclair (nee Quinn). But we have a suspicion that granny may have been illigitimate as she was so secretive and defensive about her family history. She is now burried in Belfast in her mother's grave.
My father (Thomas), had 2 brothers called Arthur and William aka Billy/Sticker (rip).
Dad is the sole survivor of this line, he lives in London, but they were born in Donegal or Belfast, Northern Ireland.
any more info contact me on mts63(AT)talktalk.net
Hope this helps you search a little further or find a further connection even though might not be related.

Hi again christine, Mary here, Uncle Arthur's family I think emmigrated to either New Zealand or Australia. Or it could have been Billy's, I think one of their sons was named Alex, but not sure, it sort of rings a bell in my head.
Arther had two daughters too, Jane and I think something like Celina, but cant remember their names, havent heard since I was a kid myself. Their mother was called Shirley, dont know her maiden name. I do think it was Billy's son who was Alex though.
