No
And his name is Esdel.
How do I know? I asked him.
As to what his "real" name is it depends!
If there is a mis-spelling in the register, is that your "real" name?
If any of you kind people can find that marriage cert, many thanks and bless you.
Esdel was a gunner in the war (Royal Artillery) lost a leg in Italy invasion and for his gallantry received a pension of 8 shillings and six pence a week.

Hi again JohnF,
It does seem that, to make entirely sure that you (and thus those of us who are trying to help on B-G) are on the right track, you will need to obtain some certificates.
Starting with the 1936 marriage certificate of Esdell (sic) A BLANCHARD & Lilian DRIVER.
Then the 1905 birth certificate of Esdell (sic) Alfred BLANCHARD.
Etc ....
Otherwise we might be following false trails.
All the best,
JAP

dimitri1's information
Yes indeed dimitri1, the information you posted is very interesting.
But the first step for John F - in working from the known back to the unknown - seems to be to obtain the 1936 marriage cert to determine the ages of the parties and the names and occupations of their respective fathers (and names of witnesses might help).
Then to get Esdel(l)'s bc and, if it can be determined after viewing the mc, Lilian's bc.
Then possibly link them up to your information.
Regards to all,
JAP
PS: dimitri1, Welcome!
