I have been researching my family and thier threads for about 15 years. The lines I'm looking for here are my ggg grandfather Thomas Hawkes (b. 1799 d. 1875 Canada) and his wife Mary Crump. I have found contacts that have Mary but none the has Thomas. I am also looking for James Stewart or Stuart ( b. 1730 Argyle, Skye, Scotland d. 179 Pennsylvania) and his wife Peggy or Margaret Brown. Verbal family history from my great grandfather George Maxim Hawkes says that somewhere in these lines we are related to Mary Queen of Scots and that either his father Thomas Hawkes or grandfather passed up and inheritance because they would not return to England.
The other line I'm looking into in my wifes great grandfather Richard Lee (per son James Lee's birth records they lived at 221 Bag Lane, Atherton in 1888) and his wife Mary Pemberton. I have an album of pictures, undocumented by name, from James Lee which most likely has some pictures of his siblings and family from England. I will attempt to post that in the near future.
Back to me, I am currently a retired electrical engineer in Michigan. My line, the Shearer's were sent packing from Ireland in the 1740's to the U.S.A. when Cromwell gave thier land away to his cronies. If there are any Shearer's interested in this line, I don't have much info before thier arrival here.
regards,
Jim Shearer

Hi Jim,
It was a pleasant surprise to read your thread. I have also been researching Thomas Hawkes. He is my gggrandfather (my ggrandfather is his son John). Mary Queen of Scots? Now that sounds fascinating!!! I live not too far from where they settled in Ontario, so if I can help you with anything on this side of the river, please let me know. Hoping to hear from you soon so we can compare notes.

Thomas Hawkes
I found an on line copy of my great greatgrandfather death certificate on line (http://haldigitalcollections.cdmhost.com/). That is, Thomas Hawkes, son of Thomas Hawkes and Mary Crump. That cert lists his father's name as Thomas Henry Hawkes and his mother as Maria Steward or Stewart. I am making an assumption that the name was reported incorrectly on the death certificate by Adolphus Hawkes who signed the certificate.
I do have pictures of my great grandfather, Maxim and his brother and sister, Adolphus and Henrietta. I do also have a biographical sheet on John Hawkes, married to Margaret Lane.
Yes, I would love to get any data you would care to share, would love to see death certs for Thomas and Mary if those are available, same with headstone photos. I have most of my tree data at ancestry.com and could also add to the tree so you can view it all, including the notes. I would need your email address in that case.
Still fresh to this site so I'm unsure how to post data here.

Headstones
Fantastic, I'd just started trying to find a site and you all ready had it. I wonder about Sherman Hawkes, may a cousin, uncle or brother to Thomas? There was some verbal family history that Maxim has gone to live with a uncle George in Canada after his mother died. The children didn't like thier step-mother at all. You'll see some notes on that when I send the history report I just made. It'll be in your mail box forthwith. Also found at this site a great uncle and his wife, I believe, which is John Stewart and his wife Eliza. GGGG grandfather Charles should be in this one also according to my searching, there also should be some Whittle's and I see there are some Fox's. Goodness, I getting excited. According to my birthdate calculater Thomas' birthdate is 27 March 1799.
warmest regards and thanks
