Default Parish records - Drumcliffe, County Sligo

A friend has asked for some help in locating her grandfather's grave. I have absolutely no experience with Irish parish records, so hope someone can give me a hand.

She has been told that her grandfather is buried in the same churchyard as William Butler Yeats - St. Columba in Drumcliffe, County Sligo.

She is taking a tour of Ireland, leaving on June 1st. The tour includes this church, so she is hoping to find him in the graveyard. Unfortuately, since he was allegedly buried in a pauper's grave, there is probably no headstone. However, I thought if I could possibly find parish records, then his burial would be recorded, and she would at least know he's there.

I took a look at some background materials last night, and realized I have no knowledge of how to find out where the parish records might be held.

His name is William John Stitt, and he died September 23, 1938. He was a Protestant, by the way.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    regards

    Pam

The contact for St Columba's Drumcliffe is Rev. Ian Linton, The Rectory, Drumcliffe, Co, Sligo, Ireland. No email address is shown. Some views of the church and cemetry are at http://www.drumcliffe.elphin.anglican.org/index.shtml It is not that large a grave yard so quite likely the locals would know where he is buried.

As your friend is due to travel soon you may wish to phone for information as to where the records are held. You can get the phone number at
    http://www.eircomphonebook.ie/displayhome.ds
by inputting Linton and Drumcliffe whilst choosing the residential option.

To whet your friend's appetite for the area you may want to look at the super pictures of the locality on http://www.lissadellhouse.com/statement.html

It is a lovely area I'm sure your friend will enjoy her trip.
