My great uncle Edgar Richards went out to Sydney, Australia in 1911. He died there in 1950 but I think he came back to England in his later years. I notice several on the Ancestry list. I wonder if he might have been one of them? He was born in 1881. I think he went out there before the census was taken in 1911. I wonder also if he bothered to get a passport before he went.
I would be grateful for help.

Hi Jen, do you have a little more personal info on your Gt.Uncle? His work or Family, was he married?.
Perhaps someone can suss out if he was one of those you've seen returning. Maybe with a FYP sub. who can check for dates & ages & travel companions if any.
I may be wrong but Brits I thought didn't need Passports for Colonies. I can take correction here.Happy Families

I have the death certificate and he wasn't married. I have one photograph of him standing by a dock and he looks about 50 so I think he may have come home for a visit sometime. We also have a boomerang which he must have brought with him, Was just curious about when it was he came home.

Edgar Richards
Hi Jen
findmyp*** has two Edgars going to Sydney.
One from Liverpool 1911 another from London in 1912.
There doesn't appear to anyone else going with either of them.
Your local library or FHS may have a full sub to Anc***
and you can look at incoming passenger ships.
Good luck
Georgie

Thanks for all the responses. It is interesting that there was an Edgar leaving in 1911 and one in 1912. I did see one Edgar in London on the 1911 census and thought it might be him on his way via London. He was the right age. I must take another look.
I don't think Edgar could have been coming back at the age of 20 but you never know.
