I did some transcribing for FreeREG several years ago and I have sent some of my own transcriptons of registers. Presumably because of this I am somewhere in the system.
This last couple of days I have had e-mails from any number of people totally unknown to me, both organisers and transcribers, regarding the problems that FreeREG are currently experiencing. Are any other Forum members also receiving these e-mails ?

I'm a current transcriber and haven't received any email about problems. Is it specific to one County perhaps?

After a total of 27 e-mails, some of them compalining about receiving e-mails similar to mine there was an apology - someone had pressed a wrong button. But it doesn't explain why my address was so readily available to so many people. Hopefully it will now stop.

Eileen you received those emails because at some time in the past you had registered with the Rootsweb mailing list called FreeREG.
The list has been fairly quiet as it has largely been replaced by people posting to this forum but there was a recent flurry hence you received them.
If you do not want to receive them in the future you need to unsubscribe from the FreeREG mailing list.
To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to
FREEREG-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

Kirk - thank you for that, and I have unsubscribed. None of the messages I got were to do with Family History directly - more to do with people complaining about lack of communication and receiving unwanted e-mails such as mine.
Hopefully, the problem has now been resolved.
