    Smile Hi from cruiser

Hi I have been tracing my family for a while now and it has become very addictive, every time I think I have come to the end of a line another bit of the jigsaw shows up and off I go again.

My surnames are Krausgrill, Crossgrill, O'Neill, Pipe, Richardson, Ballaam, Welch and Willmott.

Glad to be part of your family

    Hi there and welcome

The grandmother of very close friend of mine was Laurina Balaam, the daughter of Benjamin Balaam ( b1853 Sapiston, Suffolk). He in turn was the son of Edward Balaam b1822 and Sophia Gau(l)t b1828).

    Any connection?

    Hi Alan
Yes Benjamin was my wife's great grandfather's cousin. He was married to Margaret Catchpole in 1871 then Amy Grant in 1889. He died in Oz in 1924. I do not have any children for him. Edward married Sophia Gaut.
    Hope this helps

    Hi Cruiser

I have already managed to track down a fair bit about Amy Lizzie Riddiford Barclay (she married Thomas Grant in 1877 in WA;Thomas died in 1879), and her subsequent history in Western Australia. As you say she married Benjamin Balaam in WA in 1889. I have reasonably full details of most of their decsendents in Oz.

I'm also aware that Amy is supposed to have died in the 1920's in Oz, but I have yet to find a death entry for her. There are "family rumours" about her leaving Benjamin prior to Benjamin's demise in 1924 and then heading off with a new man! Nothing proven though.

I am not aware of any earlier marriage of Benjamin in England (to Margaret Catchpole). Are you positive that this is in fact the same Benjamin? Benjamin stated he was single when he migrated to WA in 1875 (according to the passenger list) and I cannot see a death entry for her between 1871 and 1875 on FreeBMD.

    Be interested in your comments.

    Regards
    Alan
