    Default Can someone assist, please?

I need to locate a marriage.....it could have been in London or Colchester...which is why I stuck it in General.

Charles Howe (born 1887) married Isabel (or Isobel) Baker (born 1891, possibly Hampstead).

Date of marriage guessed from their ages c1910.

Her father would have been Walter Baker.

The details that are most important is Charles' father's name, Charles' occupation and Charles' birthplace.

Any clues or assistance greatly appreciated.

    Default Howe continued

Ruth, thank you...yes, that's him....or at least it should be......if I don't prove the marriage / relationship to my father, then the best part of my line is up the creek....trouble is the old man is as deaf as a post and his memory ain't too good at 85....he says he never knew what his grandfather's name was, or where they came from....so I have to prove this Charles was my father's father.

What makes things worse is the fact that Charles cleared off to London for work (hotel porter, we think) and we believe he met Isabel while he was there......But.....then we find a Census 1901 doc. that shows she was living in Stansfield near Bury St Edmunds..with father Walter and stepmother Lottie.

An earlier census extract (possibly 1891) seems to suggest that her father Walter (wife Ellenor) was in Hampstead...I can't find this entry again and I suppose it would be handy to have it.

As you have the names and surnames of both parties, and you can narrow down the year of marriage, th best way forward may just be to trawl the GRO index of marriages, looking for Charles HOWE and whenever you find an entry, see if you can locate another entry in the same quarter/year which has the same registration district, volume and page.

    Default Howe / Baker

The title sounds like the start of a 60's rock band!

That's brilliant!.....part of the problem out of the way.

Yes please, I would like an image of the document....I'll send you a private message with my most suitable e-mail address, if that's OK.

What is surprising is that Walter Baker, was actually a Master Baker and an Innkeeper....was he really a Harness Maker as well, or is that a poorly written Master Baker by the census taker?

I know this is the right family on one side, my father was named after one of the sons.

Isabel was obviously not included even though she was born that year....but at least I can track their movements to 1901 now.

Ellenor was originally a 'Snow' and I think the document should also show a family of Snow, just above the Baker entry.

Thanks again....all I have to do is find the Charles / Isabel marriage.
