I have been using Farstone's VirtualDrive 9 with Windows XP to run virtual discs of my 1881 census CDs. This saves time and wear of the original discs.
However, VirtualDrive 11 isn't performing 100% under Vista (I can access existing VCDs, but can't create new ones). So far the Farstone techies haven't found the answer.
Can anyone recommend a similar program. I've seen references to MagicDisc and DAEMON Tools, among others.

It can be run from hard drive anyway, without 'Virtual CD'. See http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb....mland/1881.htm - this was found by googling 'lds 1881 census hard drive'. I assume it will still work with Vista. It does mean making registry changes.
The original article on this was in Family Tree Magazine and a copy can be found at http://www.censusdecoder.com/1881census.htm
