    Default Gibbons brickwall

My GG Grandfather Jonathan Gibbons married Ann Sodo 1808 in Old St London.

In the 1841 census he is mistranscribed as Gibbins and living with:
    Caroline Gibbins 35 wife
    Ann Gibbins 6 daughter
    Margaret Gibbins 3 daughter

However I don't think Caroline was his wife. He was still married to Ann Sodo
The daughter Ann was my G Grandmother.

In the 1851 census Gibbons is mistranscribed as Gibery and living with:
    Ann 15 daughter
    Margaret 13 daughter
    Caroline Hole 46 Lodger-occupation Nurse-condition marr

What I'm looking for is the children's births/baptisms.
    Also who was Caroline Gibbons/Hole

The Gibbons were always in the Bethnal Green/Shoreditch/Mile End areas.

Jonathan and Ann had other children:

    Jonathan Oakley
    Rebecca c1816
    Philip c1819
    Ann c1820

    I haven't found their birth/baptisms either
I know who they all marrried.

I've had this brickwall for some time and I"ll be amazed if someone could crack it.
    I'd love to be amazed.

The problem with the 1841 is it does not give relationships or marital conditions, therefore Johnathon could be widowed and Caroline could be just a lodger mistranscribed

Have you found a death for Ann yet? Although I notice Johnathon still is shown as married in 1851, but where is Ann Snr if that is the case.

Ann is living with her daughter Rebecca in 1841/51 and 61 census.

    Rebecca married John Hunt

I have Ann's death cert. She died in 1867 age 80

On the cert it states widow of Jonathan Gibbons.

Jonathan died in 1861 age 71.

    P. Gibbons was the informant. I assume his son Philip.

Hi June, been rooting around on FMP parish records, Familysearch and Ancestry records and like you, I cannot find any trace of baptisms for the children.

Thanks for trying Lincoln Lad. See what I mean about a brickwall.

If I knew Caroline was the mother I'd have something to go on but I don't.

I thought she could have been a relation helping out with the children but I haven't come across a Caroline in this Gibbons family. And did she marry someone named Hole.

If you have exhausted all on-line parish records, is it still possible they could be found at National Archives?

Just looked at 1851 census again and think it could read Caroline Cole with an initial I or J in between.

    Hi June,

Are you certain that you have the right family in 1841? I've found an Ann Gibbons aged 50 (the age fits with Rafael's IGI info re. baptism of Ann) living with Philip aged 20 and Ann aged 20 (rounded down) in Tower Hamlets St. Matthew Bethnal Green which would fit with the dates you provided. The children in your original 1841 census Gibbins are too young for Jonathan and Ann married 1808?

    Source Citation: Class: HO107; Piece 694; Book: 2; Civil Parish: Bethnal Green; County: Middlesex; Enumeration District: 6; Folio: 40; Page: 1; Line: 7;

Further to above post. Ann, Philip and Ann are living in the household of John and Rebecca Hunt (aged 25) and family. Living with married daughter?

    Hi June,

Chennistone just beat me , I had a look at 1841/51 census I thought the children with Jonathan & Caroline were too young for Ann, also that there wouldn't be 2 Anns. so perhaps they were just living apart and Jonathan had taken up with someone else and started another family. I also found a burial for Jonathan Gibbons 23 Dec 1861 at Victoria Park Cemetry, Hackney.
