Hi Thomasin
Thanks for the offer of the lookup of the Lewisham registers at the library. I wouldn't want you to go to the trouble though as I only have years and not dates. As we all do, we find tidbits of others' research which look enticing and plausible but can't decide whether to accept them. If the library has indexed material, the dates I have are (yes, the baptism is before the marriage!):
1721 bap. Leonard Miskin
1728 mar. William Miskin
Kind regards
Lyn

Hi Lyn
Right, I'll have a look. I'm going to Lewisham at some point soon for someone else, so that will be fine. It probably won't be next week, but watch this space .....

Hi Lyn
In view of Sue's magnificent delvings, do you still need a lookup at Lewisham?

Hi Lyn
You didn't answer my question, but I had a quick look anyway when I was in Lewisham today. I saw a book containing the printed transcripts, which had these:
1728 Oct 27 Wm. Mistin (Mackins) and Margaret Wilkinson; banns
1733 Dec 2 Wm. son of Wm. Misten
1738 Mar 11 Samuel son of Wm. Mistin from the Pound Row, Labourer
There was no mention of Leonard b. 1721, which is not surprising if he was born elsewhere. The spelling is exactly what was printed - and I don't know what Mackins is all about!
Hope this is useful.

Hi Thomasin
Very thoughtful of you to take time out while you were in the library to look at the transcripts. Yes, the info you have sourced is really useful.
'Mackins' is going to keep me going for a while. No reference in any gazeteer or index of occupations. Mackins and Mackin do appear as surnames in Kent but not to any great extent.
Kind regards
Lyn
