    Default 1871 Census Lookup Please

I am trying to locate a relative on the 1871 census who at the moment is being very elusive.

She is Mary A. Fellows/Fellowes born in Islip, Northamptonshire in c. 1852. I am unable to find her on the 1871 census even when I assume she could have been married by this time. If anyone has any better luck or suggestions on this, please let me know.

As another way to try and track her down, I am looking where her siblings are living in 1871 in case there is an error with the transcript that is throwing me off course. I would therefore really appreciate a lookup on her sister:

Lavinia Fellowes, born c. 1848 in Islip. I can see one Lavinia Fellows born in 1848 but is showing as born Shropshire and living Middlesex. Could this be her. Does she have anyone else living with her?

    Many thanks
    Helen

I don't believe that there is an Islip in Shropshire so I believe that this may be her. Is there a chance that the transcript is incorrect? What address is given for this Lavinia in the 1871 census?

    Many thanks

The Address is St Leonard Foster Lane, London. She's listed as Domestic Servant, whilst you can decipher Islip, the next bit doesn't say Shropshire, it's short and ends in "ton" very hard to make out.

I've checked for Mary A and Mary born Islip etc, there are only about 7 but none with the surname your looking for.

    Sorry

Great thank you - I guess the 'ton' bit on the Census could be Nhamp'ton' or something similar. Sounds as if it could be her. I'll do some more digging on the 1881 census to try and confirm that this is her.

    Thanks again

    Perhaps worth considering?

Miriam Ann FELLOWS Head Unm 22 Housekeeper Northamptonshire Islip
Louisa WINDMILL Lodger Marr? 27 Domestic Servant Leicestershire Lutterworth

For what it's worth, I can’t find this Miriam Ann elsewhere, so perhaps she is Mary Ann, despite the 3-year age gap?

I believe it says Islip Thrapston.

Fantastic! Thanks to you both. Brilliant detective work even when the transcripts give us little challenges to work around. Hopefully I can move forward from here.
