    Default Questions...

I'm new to this board and have a couple or three questions/requests.

    1) Would it be possible to get a look-up done for Elizabeth Brown of High Laver in the 1861 High Laver census? I need to know who she was living with and her relation to the head. She was 19-yrs old in Oct 1872. Thanks.

    2) Anyone have any old photos of Billericay? I'm really interested to know if there are any pics of Violet Cottages in Western Road. Now demolished. In fact any old photos of Billericay will be interesting as I was born there.

    3) Anyone researching Surridge from High Laver or Cullen from Billericay?

    Regards,

    Kris.

    Question

Just looking at the 1871 census entry.

Says that Elizabeth Brown is niece to the head, George Brown. Whereas 1861 census says she is the grand daughter to George Brown. Is this normal?

I think I now have the correct reference for her birth certificate DEC qtr 1852, so I've ordered it anyway.

I've also noticed this confusion in her husbands entry in the 1861 and 1871 censuses.

    1871

    ----

    Ann Surridge Head, 67(1)

    Walter " " son, 39

    William W " " Gson, 14

    1861

    ----

    Ann Surrage Boarder, 50

    Walter " " boarder son, 29

    Alfred " " boarder son, 8

    William " " boarder son, 5

Elizabeth Browns husband was Alfred James Surridge. He too was illegitimate, but I'm wondering if his grandmother was Ann Surridge? His birth certificate gives his mother's name as Eliza Surridge and he was born in Hatfield BroadOak. Where is that? Is it part of High Laver/Ongar?

I wonder if someone would be kind enough to see if she is in the 1851 or 1841 census for these areas? It'd be great if she was Ann's daughter.

    Many thanks,

    Kris.

    Hi Kris
It's an idea to check eBay for old photos, particularly in the topographical postcard section. There are currently 17000 UK postcards up for auction. No need to buy, as you can view and copy the images. I had a quick look, and there's not much there at the moment for Billaricay, but worth checking regularly, or set up a favorite search and get email notification. You may find just the card you want, then you can bid for it if you like.

PS If you go to the Worcestershire Forum and check out "MALVERN postcards" you can see part of my collection.
