On the 1881 census I have come across a Franetta Smith, aged 19 from Harborough, Leic. She is recorded as being the niece of either Thomas or Eliza Smith.
I've also found a record of her death on Ancestry 1909, Uppingham, on there she has the name Tranetta Smith, but I feel sure it's the same person. The problem I'm having is that I can't find her on any other census, she must be there somewhere using some variation of her name, could any kind person see if they can find her, as I'm now at a loss as to where she's disappeared to.
Many thanks

In 1891 there is a Fanetta Smith born about 1863 in Market Harborough but this time she is the wife of Thomas Smith. Class: RG12; Piece: 2544; Folio 88; Page 30
In 1871 there is a Janetta Smith born about 1864 in Market Harborough and a Pauper in Thorpe Road Union Workhouse.

Possibly her in 1901 as Jeanetta Smith, still wife of Thomas born abt 1863 in Market Harborough. They have several children.

All of the above (both posts) are living in Melton Mowbray.

I began to think the above could not be her because her maiden name and married name being Smith.
But....
March 1894 has a marriage of a Thomas Smith and Tranetta Smith on the same page at Melton M. 7a/479

Thank you so much for those references.
I'm now of course wondering who her parent were and who the Thomas & Eliza were that she was with in 1881. I'll order the marriage cert for Janetta/Francetta/Franetta/Jeanetta/Tranetta (
) and Thomas to see what light that sheds on who she was, although I'm not holding out much hope on her parentage given that she was in the workhouse prior to that.
It looks as if Thomas was 'at her majesty's' in 1881 - Pentonville for some reason - wonder what he did??
Having now looked at the 1911 census Thomas was widowed, living with is two daughters, Alice (11) & Laura (13), so I've now got to try and find out when she died, I haven't found anything obvious on Free BMD yet, but I'm trying to think 'out of the box' for her name.
More questions as always
