Hi.
New to this site. My wife is trying to trace her grandfather george William GITTINS, who according to his marriage certificate was a Police Constable residing at the Police Station at Cwmbran Nr Newport. Have made contact with Mon Police Hqs but had not reply to a Answer Machine. Has anyone any knowledge of the force at that time (1899) or been succesful in getting info from Mon Police.

Apparently the Gwent Records Office at County Hall Cwmbran hold registers of officers and constables for the period 1857 - 1951 you may have more luck with them.
A lot of forces have very limited resources for following up family history enquiries, you could be waiting a long time
