Question Please help - info needed on Harman GRISEWOOD of Daylesford House

    Hi all on Glos list!

I am looking for information relating to Harman GRISEWOOD, listed in Burke's Peerages as being born in Finchley, Mdlx at Burntwood Grange c. 1824 (I have no info on that either yet!), but later of Daylesford House, Glos. (think the county boundary was moved, so may have been registered as Worcs. too).

Does anyone have access to the 1851 and 1861 census returns for Daylesford? If so, please would you let me know if Harman GRISEWOOD appears on it, and if so, who else lives/works with him? Or any other suggestions as to where I could look for info?

I am looking for a link between the GRISEWOOD and MIDDLETON families which resulted in the illegitimate birth of my gggg grandfather, Harman Grisewood MIDDLETON!

Any and all help gratefully received, and many thanks for your time,
    Kate

Burntwood Grange is on Wandsworth Common, this was not his place of work but his home, also census confirms that he was born in Finchley.

1861 Census he is at Daylesford House, Stow on the Wold, Gloucestershire (RG9; Piece 1790; Folio 64; Page 26)

Awful transcription:- he is Hannah ()
    wife Elizabeth
daughter Hannah (17) (original says Harman - son)

plus about 32 others listed - servants and presumably their children

What names are you looking for as there is too many to type out!

Hi Kate just to confirm findings of Jellylegs the "W" on 1851 looks more like an "H" for Harman, but transcribed as a "W"

Hi Kate, had another look at 1851 and spotted that living with Harman and Elizabeth was her sister transcribed as Eldinckenora Finch! aged 27, you would know what her real name is, as it is extremely difficult to glean the true name, let us know!

As Harman Grisewood MIDDLETON's birth was registered in the Dec qtr 1840 in Barnet, it seems that a search for any link would need to be before that - which makes things very difficult. I take it that it is suspected (because of his given names) that Harman GRISEWOOD was the father. Probably impossible to prove unless the GRISEWOOD family made some provision for him. Harman GRISEWOOD was obviously considerably wealthy judging by the number of servants he had in later years (after his marriage in 1844).

In the 1841 census, Harman GRISEWOOD 20 was with the following GRISEWOODs (transcribed as GRISEWOLD) in Park Place, Finchley - Eleanor 55 Ind, Ellen 30, Arthur 30, Louisa 25, and Henry 15, all born in the county.

    Good luck!

    JAP
Incidentally, I think the name of the sister-in-law mentioned earlier is Ellen Maria.
