    Default FreeREG Oxfordshire

Looking at the counties available for FreeREG, I've noticed that Oxfordshire County is not on the list of Counties, although on the Parishes page, 1804 - 1835 Baptisms and 1815 - 1836 Burials for Burford Baptist Church are listed as completed. Oxfordshire

    Is this a glitch?

Yes and Burford is on the list of places - but you can`t search under it as the county of Oxfordshire doesn`t exist! Well spotted Aislin!

    Thumbs up

I have e-mailed the Oxfordshire County Co-ordinator, and also the FreeREG webmaster. Hopefully this will be actioned in due course. I agree, most irritating!

It just seems that poor Rachel put in alot of time and effort for no one to see. And I wouldn't mind taking a peek at it.

I have had a reply from the FreeREG executive.

" You are correct there are currently issues with the ownership of some Oxfordshire transcriptions. Consequently we are not permitting searches of Oxfordshire data until they are resolved."

So, they are aware of the problem and obviously trying to remedy the situation. I guess we have to be patient, like waiting for all the records to be transcribed .

I had the good fortune to visit the Oxford record office this month and may be able to shed some light on why there are problems in this County.

Unlike many/most other RO's I've visited Oxford's records are 90% or more transcripts in books rather than fiche or film. This would inevitably lead to copyrite issues. I hope there is a way to resolve this as I too would like to see the records for this County on freereg rather than having to buy the CD's from the FHS at a relatively high cost!
