    Default Helen Mary Horrell c1860

I'm having trouble finding my g-grandmother Helen Mary Horrell. Here's the information I have about her -

30 June 1884, marriage to Horatio Henry Bethell in Hammersmith, age 25, spinster, father Thomas Edwards Horrell, farmer

1891 census, listed as Ellen Berthell, living with husband Henry and family in St Pancras, age 50, born Northampton, Peterboro

1901 census, listed as Helen Mary, living with husband Henry and family in Tottenham, age 40, born Suffolk, Bury St Edmonds

1911 census, listed as Helen Mary, widow, living in Tottenham, age 50, born Cambridge, Peterboro

    10 February 1935, died, age 76 years

From the above dates and places of birth, it would appear likely that Helen Mary was born in Peterboro around 1860 but I cannot find her birth record anywhere.

Does anyone have any good ideas of how I can track her down?

    Thanks
    Carol

Do you have her on the census prior to her marriage?

    Hi Astoria,
No, I can't find her at all before her marriage, she's a complete mystery.

I can't find her or dad either, , do you have other Horrells, there seem to be a good number in Devon and Cornwall.

Who were the witnesses at the wedding?

I couldn't find him either I don't have any other Horrell's it was only her. One of their sons was named Percy Horrell though so I think the surname is right.

The witnesses at their wedding were, I think, C. W. Lucas and Ann/Annie Walker and they got married from 1 Margaret Terrace, Brook Green.

Let's see where Mr? Lucas and Annie Walker fit in, might they have married a Horrell or been a Horrell?

1892 Northampton - Charles William LUCAS married a Hannah HODDLE, could be a long shot, but might be worth exploring.

    Hi there,

There seem to be so many spelling variations for Horrell....Harrell, Harrill, Harrall etc, IGI also suggests Orrill and Orrell.

    I think I may have found Helen/Ellen in 1881;

    RG11/0155/89/24
    Gloster Place, Marylebone, Middlesex.

she is down as Ellen HORROLL, 24 unmarried, a servant in a lodging house, born in Cambridgeshire; I know the age is a bit out, but not by much.

I haven't found any links between the Ann/Annie Walker, Charles W Lucas and Horrell so far but they do appear to be living at the same address in 1881.

The Ellen Horroll is the 1881 census is a possibility. I've found 2 births in 1857 for Ellen Hurrell is Risbridge, one seems to have died in the same year and the other in 1925, unmarried. Neither of these seem likely. Isn't Risbridge the wrong side of Cambridgeshire for Helen/Ellen to say she's born in Peterboro Just a thought.

There are so many spellings of Horrell just to confuse, but I hadn't checked Orrill and Orrell! I'll keep looking...
