Would appreciate some assistance is reading elements of following 1861 census for Brixton Road, Lambeth via RG9, Piece 360, Folio 23, Page 14, Sch 70.
Winifred Winterbottom, Head, Widow, 61, born Chelsea, Middlesex.
Below Winifred is her daughter, with the same name. She has an occupation of Teacher of, and what I think is either Catholicism or Catholism or something similar. Would appreciate confirmation.
Would also appreciate confirmation of the street address. At the page top is recorded Brixton Road and below, I think Askell or Alpell Place.
Have looked on 'A*' at the enumerators district page but an actual census page is displayed and not the district details.
You will note 3 possible generations of Winterbottoms on the census page. I can trace the Head and her 2 daughters without a problem. I cannot trace any of the 5 'grandchildren' apart from 6-year-old Minnie. She turns up in another school in Clapham in the 1871 census (RG10, Piece 698, Folio 10, Page 14) run by the same 3 individuals, and this census has 9 'Neice's', of which I can trace one.
Any assistance in reading the occupation or street address would be appreciated, along with any other information regarding the recorded grandchilden and neice's.
Rod

Michael, rather than Religion more down the road of Physical Exercise, Keep Fit or Gymnastics. Interesting, because have another related family member who took that line as well, Fencing Master and Gymnastics Teacher. Food for thought?

Can't help you with the address, except to confirm Brixton Rd, Lambeth. However if you move forward a few pages you come to Normandy Place, Brixton Road, and then Claremont Place, Brixton Road. These don't show up on a street map search either.

What did you want to know about the address?
It's 8 Alfred Place.
This "subsidiary name" was later abolished and the address was simply Brixton Road. I don't know what number it would have been.
