    Default WILLIAM PICKEN, Pembroke

    Could SKS let me have any information about WILLIAM PICKEN who died at PEMBROKE early 1867 aged 84?

    Not a common name in South Wales, I think, and I wonder whether it could possibly be my g-g-grandfather, born SHIFNAL, Shropshire 1783, where he was a tailor, and later seems to have been an innkeeper, possibly in NEWPORT, Shropshire.

    The only family connection with PEMBROKE that I know of was that his grandson - my grandfather - WILLIAM JOHN PARTRIDGE bought himself out of the Army - the 100th Foot - while it was stationed there in November 1865. He later married in TREDEGAR in 1868. Strangely, my grandfather's entry in the 1871 census gives his place of birth as NEWPORT, Shropshire, though it should have been LAMBETH, Shropshire.

    Any information would be most welcome,

    I have established that this was not my g -g-grandfather.
    If anyone is interested I have the death certificate, registered in the sub-district of ROOSE.
    He died 24th JaNUary 1867 at what looks like Langumferry Burton (?Llangwm) aged 84 years. He was a Chelsea Pensioner and died of old age, the informant being RICHARD MORGAN of the same address who made his mark.

    Whilst your posting is somewhat from the past, the following just may be of interest;
    From my index of Parish Baptism Registers of Pembroke St Mary for the period 1822 to 1847,
    09 March 1838 George Harvey to John & Margaret Partridge of the Dock a Corporal in the Royal Marines baptised by James Dalton.
    Pembroke St Mary Mrge Register 1848 to 1915
    George Partridge of full age a widower and pensioner of Pembroke the son of Samuel Partridge a shoemaker mrd Mary Welsh a minor and spinster of Pembroke the daughter of Benjamin Welsh a labourer by licenece in front of W.M.D. Berrington. Both made their mark in the presence of Richard Dunn and George Froyne.
