Default McCann Family members - Preston area

I am searching for McCann family members who are still in the area of Preston Lancs. My GrGrandmother Margaret McCann Bellew was the daughter of Hugh McCann b. Preston 1866, d. Preston 1914. He had many daughters - also Elizabeth, Catherine, Alice Ann, Margaret, Ellen & Mary Agnes, one son James died the same year he was born.

These ladies are of particular interest to me - When Margaret left England for the US in 1926, her youngest son John (b. 1919) was too ill for the trip. He was left in England with another member of the family believed to be one of Margaret's sisters - we're trying to determine who. His name was John Bellew, he would have been a nephew of one of these ladies. Sadly, John died in WWII in Dunkirk 1940. I am curious if anyone knows of this 'cousin John' that lived with their family.

Here's a bit more on my McCann connection - Hugh was the son of Patrick McCann, b. 1829 in Fermanaugh Ireland. Patrick had many children - Hugh, Henry, Anthony, Margarete, Catherine, Joseph.

I would be happy to hear from any/ all McCanns in Lancs to see if we can make a connection.
    Thanks!!

If you want to research the McCann line a little further, try Lancashire BMD.

    Antonia -
Thanks very much for that. I am all too familiar with this site - it's a regular on my research paths :-) As I said in the original message, because the names were so used (Elizabeth, Mary etc) there are several marriage entries for each of them - I've got no way at this point to know which one is the correct marriage - other than any obvious date problems. I've been exploring all of them, and it's a very long process but it'll get some crossed off the list anyway.

As for going further back in this line, I'm out of Lancs with Patrick who was born in Ireland.

    Thanks for the reply!

    Hello Cindy,

I also found your genealogical website and sent a message so hope I can make contact one way or another! My grandmother, born 1888 in Preston, was Elizabeth McCann, sister of your great-grandmother, Margaret. Elizabeth died in 1943 and I never really knew much about her siblings, apart from her unmarried sister, Alice Ann McCann, who attended my parents' wedding. I have a lot of information on the McCanns in Preston on the 19th century, as well as their related branches - Smith, Byrne, Morris etc, which I'd be happy to share.

    Kath
