I'm sure this is a common problem.
I have a Irish family in my tree called Crawford. They moved to Co. Durham in England c. 1880 onwards and I have absolutely no idea where they came from. I have them all in England by 1901 census. There is nothing on the census returns at all apart from the word Ireland.
I know they were protestants as they used the local Cof E church for their marriages and funerals. But that is the sum of my knowledge.
Is there any hope?
Lynn

Have you found them on the 1881 and 1891 census just in case the place of birth is more than just Ireland?
