Hi Ianisleeds

As well as looking at the GRO indexes, you can search for BMDS from Leeds and some other parts of Yorkshire at Yorkshire BMD. This is linked to the indexes held at local register offices - but don't use one site's index data to order certificates from the other. Using Yorkshire BMD alongside the GRO indexes can often help to solve tricky problems.

I haven't done an extensive search there, but by looking for a marriage of a SPAREHAM to a Mary I found a couple of interesting entries, both at Leeds Parish Church (St Peter). (NB - tick the Soundex box when searching, as this will bring up variants of surnames - in this case SPARHAM.)
1889 - William SPARHAM married Mary Ann HIGGINS
1897 - Maurice SPARHAM married Mary BATTY
I don't have time to search any more at present, and anyway, you're better placed than me to understand what these mean, but I suggest you have a look for yourself to see if these entries (or others) are of any help.

Arthur
