    Default GEORGE JOSEPH HOCKING

Looking for help in tracing any connections to GEORGE JOSEPH HOCKING who has connections with South Africa. Believed he may have been born in the Surrey area 26/5/1884. Was married twice. 2nd time to Victoria Skinner who herself was a widow. Last known address for a visit in 1957 to an address in Beddington, Surrey.
Please contact me if you know this person or may have family links to him as I have come to a full stop in finding out more.

His marriage certificate should have his father's name on it, this will make it a bit easier to narrow him down in the 1851 census, and then his family in 1841 if he wasn't yet born.

Managed to miss this when you first posted it. George Joseph HOCKING apparently died in South Africa in 1959. His Death Notice (a very useful document) is in the Cape Archives.

If you go to http://www.national.archives.gov.za/ and click on
Search National Automated Archival Information Retrieval System
(on the left hand side), then RSA (all archive repositories), then enter George, Joseph and Hocking on three separate lines, you will get two hits, one for the death notice of George (listing his first wife as Augusta Johanna and his second wife as Victoria (nee Skinner)

The second entry is the death notice for Augusta Johanna (nee Hamman) in 1935.

You are fortunate in that these documents are not in the Western Cape Archives (where digital cameras are banned), so you can probably get digital copies via http://www.eggsa.org/

    Default George Joseph Hocking

Thank you to CHRISTINE, SANDYHALL and SUE MACKAY for all the info you have provided me with.

It confirms what you have all written with what I already have, plus Louisa maiden name. Have been trawling through all the sites I know of till I got results. That,s the fun of researching our families, though there are times we beg for that extra help .

Thank you one and all. Just need to find out where exactly in Durban they are all buried
