I have my grandfathers original Royal Air Force Service and Release Book and need some help with understanding a few things - what does the following in bold/italics stand for![]()
He was a Workshand - does anyone know what this was, or what he did.
- Rank = LAC
- Class of Release = A
- Unit/Group = 5351 AC Wing II Group
- RAF Character = V.G
- Proficiency A = SAT
- Served in the R.A.F.V.R. on full time service
He was not a casulty of war so there is no listing in the CWGC site or with national archives. I also have his service number. Is there a site for the RAF that I might be able to find further info on him from ???

RAF Help please
I don't personally have any experience of RAF records but suggest you try the RAF Museum
They also have a Department of Research & Information Services.
Hope these supply what you need, FredP.

Hi Carrie
I'm new to this Forum and as it is sometime since your initial request I am unsure if you will pick up this thread.
I'm searching for information on 5351 Wing II Group.
I have my Father's RAF Service and Release Book it states
1.Rank = LAC
2.Class of Release = A
3.Unit/Group = 5351 AC Wing II Group
4.RAF Character = V.G
5.Proficiency A = SAT
6.Served in the R.A.F.V.R. on full time service
7. Workshand = Quote from book "As a workshand this airman has had very varied experience in connection with the building trade. He has carried out his duties in a very workman like manner and is very sound"
I have my Fathers Service Number and I'm searching for information related to the time he spent in the RAF
My Father served from 1941 to 1946
It would be interesting to know if your Grandfather was stationed with my Father and if they were released from the same RAF Base?
