Hi
I'm doing some research on behalf of a friend who would like to know more about her father's time in the Second World War.
I know his name, and she was told he was in the Scottish Camerons, and was a desert rat. I believe he was born in 1915, and that's just about all I know, other than he died in 1976 aged 60.
I would like to find, if possible, his army number at least, and would like to know, if I can find that, how I could trace his records for her? Could anyone point me in the right direction please?
Many thanks.

Hello Janice,
Unfortunately, all Second World War service records are closed until 2020. But, service records may be released to the serviceman or woman (if he/she is still alive) and to his/her next of kin if he/she had died.
The place to contact is:
Army Personnel Centre
Historic Disclosures
Mail Point 400
Kentigern House
65 Brown Street
Glasgow
G2 8EX
Tel: 0845 600 9663, option 1, then option 3. They should then send you a form to complete.
