Question 1841 lookup please - Buxted

I am trying to trace George FUNNELL - according to the 1871 census he was born in Buxted. Aged 37 on 1871 which would make him born1833/4.

I have tried the IGI to no avail and have just searched through Buxted baptisms but he is not there. There are very few FUNNELLS at all.

He moved to Kent (Tonbridge/Tunbridge Wells) and when he married in 1855, his father was shown as George as well.

There is a George FUNNET on 1851 census sample on Ancestry in Tunbridge Wells aged 18 born in Buxted, lodger.

What I was wondering was that if someone has the 1841 census and if Buxted is not too big to look through, if they could see if there is a family of FUNNELLS with a son George of about the right age (which would give me a bit more info to go on).

    Thanks in anticipation.

    Thank you very much!!!

I am having trouble tracing this chap - he is supposed to have been born in Buxted and although there are loads of Funnells in Sussex, they seem to have come from anywhere but Buxted (but not mine, just my luck!)

I am sure that you had a good look the first time so please don't do it again - I feel really guilty - I had no idea Buxted would be so big!

    Thanks again.

    Default Funnell of Buxted

    Hi again Karen

I have slowly scrolled through the 1841 census for Buxted again looking for your George Funnell aged about 7 or 8; but I am afraid without much success.

All I have found up to now is
Thomas Funnell, aged 14, Ag Lab on a farm run/owned by William Ewen and Family; think it was called Pankhurst Farm.

Thomas was born in Sussex but the family he was staying with was not.

    Sorry to be so negative

Many many thanks - I always think it is just as important to rule places out (although it would have been great if he was there!).

    Thanks for your trouble.
